News from the Hananasif orphanage
August 11, 2009
In March 2008, ROSA LOVES connected with the Hananasif orphanage. We committed to raising funds to purchase and install an irrigation system, with which a sustainable agriculture program could be implemented. The story we shared was Water the Fields, and after having met the goal we are thrilled to share this update from Sydney Schaef.

"Hananasif Academy has begun laying the foundations for long-term sustainability at its 300 acre school site in Mkuranga, Tanzania. Over the last few months, Hananasif staff have been working with local engineers and workers to construct and install its first irrigation system that new spans 5 acres of fertile land. Planting has already begun, and soon Hananasif will be harvesting watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, ocra, spinach, and more on the land. Drawing water from a nearby river that borders Hananasif's land, the new irrigation system will position Hananasif Academy to achieve three high priority goals: cultivate its land to cut food costs, teach agriculture and business to students, and generate a sustainable income by selling the surplus in the local market."

"Special thanks to ROSA LOVES for making this all possible through their design, promotion, and sales of Water the Fields T-shirts. Thank you for your partnership and your investment in the lives and futures of Hananasif's children."

If you purchased this shirt or shared the story of the Hananasif orphanage, thank you. You have been instrumental in enabling their sustainable agriculture program. Heart
