New T-shirt Added!
July 30, 2008
After months of working out the details, it's with much excitement and relief that we finally announce our new shirt, "Mustard Seed of Baje Amli". This shirt will be sold to raise scholarship funds for students of the Child Development Center in Baje Amli, Bangladesh, which was built with funds raised from the Sharkar Family T-shirt, a T-shirt created by ROSA LOVES last summer. We're super excited about this new shirt! The financial goal to raise is $2,000. This cost will cover full scholarships for 30 students in the village for two years, and daily nutritional support such as a banana, boiled egg or a glass of milk. Many of the children do not normally receive daily nutrition, so this T-shirt will not only provide that but an education that will ultimately open the children's world to a new hope and future.
The T-shirt was designed by our new friend, Erin Jang. Erin is based out of New York City and works as the Associate Art Director at Esquire magazine. Her work is amazing. You can see more of it on her blog. We should note that Erin's involvement with ROSA LOVES was incidental and Esquire was in no way related. Thank you Erin for your incredible work. The shirt is printed on the ultra-comfy American Apparel Tri-Blend tee (the same as The Sharkar Family & Armonia #2 design). The new design is based off of the mustard seed. The mustard seed is one of the world's smallest seeds, but produces a gigantic tree. The tree symbolizes the educational growth among the students benefitting from this T-shirt. With this simple act, there will be lives changed and will grow into something unimaginable! The words, or "fruit" in the tree are Bangla characters. An English translation of the words:

Also, thank you so much to our great friend, Joshua Shirlen, and all the good folks in Maryland who volunteered for our schoolhouse photoshoot. Check out Josh's amazing talent at: www.joshuashirlen.com.
OTHER NEWS & UPDATES:
We have met our goal with the Water the Fields T-shirt!!! Since we have some extra shirts, we're going to sell the rest to support the orphanage's efforts to help build a chicken coop, which will add another sustainable source of income and food, not to mention the educational value for the children. Below is rough plan of this large coop:

We're working on another new T-shirt to help local folks get to and from their job... on bicycles! More details will come soon.
We're working on delivering the need for the Mossel Bay surfers.
Kelly Westropp who manages all of bookkeeping of ROSA LOVES has recently returned from a trip to Mexico to visit Lupe, Fernando, and Nicasio. We'll be posting updates and photos of the students soon as well.
Thank you to everyone for their constant support and encouragement.
